Maintaining Your Home
When you choose Jim Walter Homes as your new home builder, you can rest assured that your home is built soundly, using reliable materials, so you can enjoy it for decades to come. To ensure that you experience the most comfortable environment and longest use possible after your new home construction, itÕs important to maintain your home properly. Here are some important items to keep an eye on:
Home Exterior Maintenance:
- Periodically clean siding.
- Do not run sprinklers against siding.
- Keep shrubbery away from siding.
- Periodically caulk windows and doors, and expansion joints, where siding meets trim boards.
- Keep your attic vents unblocked and clear of debris.
- Inspect your attic from time to time to ensure there are no signs of roof leaks.
- If you have a wood deck, paint, seal or otherwise protect it from the weather.
- Periodically inspect nails in your wood deck to ensure none are loose from the effects of weather.
Home Interior Maintenance:
- Periodically change air filters.
- If you use a kerosene heater, be aware it adds significant moisture to the air, which may lead to mildew problems. Ensure that your heater is properly vented.
Home Foundation Maintenance:
- Ensure that water drains from under the house, and away from the house.
- Keep foundation vents open and clear at all times.
- If your home is built on a pier foundation, and you “underpin” it to cover the space below the home, ensure that the foundation is properly ventilated.
